A Deal of Love

MARK LADORES, the most popular guy in school and the guy I hate the most. He and his stupid friends named Floyd, Jordwyn and Sean has been irritating me since first grade. He acts so mighty and high since he’s the only son of the owner of the Ladores Empire, the richest company in the Philippines. The worst thing is, I’m the only girl in the school he’s been treating like this, his personal slave. I wanted to have a boyfriend to defend me but before I can confess to someone, he would threaten them to avoid me. He would call me and order things I don’t like doing. Just like now, my phones ringing wildly and I have to go now see my “master”.

         
        “What do you want this time?” I asked with a sigh. “Nothing. I was thinking of having you as my partner this upcoming party at our house, Julie. My parents are coming home this weekend and I want a date my mother wouldn’t be suspicious of” He answered. “Are you crazy? Why would I agree with you and why me? You have a lot of girlfriends use them.” “I don’t want to present them to my parents as my girlfriend. I want you to do the job! Okay here’s the deal, if you can pretend to be my girl in front of my parents the whole party, I’ll free you as my slave and will not bother you anymore but if we’re found out that were not real lovers, you’ll be my slave forever”. “Okay, deal.”

          The day of the party came. Mark fetches me at our house early to prepare me for the party. When I was done, I went to where he is to show him what I look like. When he saw me, a shock registered his face. It was like seeing me for the first time. “I know you were beautiful the first time I saw you” he said. I blushed and quickly walk away. My heart is beating fast and the face of Mark is always popping in my head. Ahhh! I have to organize my thoughts or our deal is off.

The party started and Mark led me to his parents table. I was uncomfortable with the way he looks at me and hold my hand. It’s like he’s in love with me or something and I’m sure he’s not. He introduced me as his girlfriend and was surprisingly welcomed immediately by his family without further ado. “So this is the girl you’ve been talking to me” his mother said. “Yes mom, she’s that girl.” Mark replied. I was curious of what he’s talking about so I asked him. He just smiled and said nothing. His family asked us how we met and what we liked about each other. “We met at school actually. He’s been so good to me. When I need something I’ll just have to call him and he will go immediately.” I turned to him smiling widely and said “He’s like an angel (smirk)”. “How sweet my son. No wonder since 1^st grade you’ve been talking nonstop about h...” “MOM!” Mark interrupted. I look at his flustered face curious of what his mother was about to say that made him so embarrassed.

          The party has ended and Mark sent me home by his car. I was so nervous that talking to him was impossible. He broke the silence when he asked, “So did you enjoy the party?” “Yeah, it was fun.” “I will do the deal. Starting tomorrow you’ll not be my slave. You’re free. Good bye.” I should be happy hearing that but I’m not. It’s liked my heart is ripped into two. I didn’t notice that we’ve arrived at our house. We said our good byes and I went inside with my back on him. I went upstairs and tears started to fall. I realized I love him and I don’t want to part from him. It’s too late to change my feelings for him. I was still crying when a honk of a car got my attention.

I creep outside and saw Mark’s car. He got out of his car and went straight to me. To my surprise, he hugged me tightly and said, “I don’t care if you don’t love me Julie, I just want you to know that I have love you since first grade. I don’t know how to express my feelings so I bully you for you to see me. I threatened all those guys around you because you’re mine and only mine. I really want to invite you properly and introduce you to my parents as my girlfriend but I was afraid you will decline so I made that stupid deal. I don’t want any girls. I want you. I promise to do anything for you to love me. Julie Andrea Edpan, can you be my girlfriend.” I was stunned by his sudden confession. Tears are falling down my eyes again. I look at his face. He was waiting for my response. “You idiot! why did you just say it only now? Did you know how much I cried because of you?” “Is it a no then? I promise I’ll do anything for you to like me just give me a chance.” “You don’t have to do that” “Did you really hate me?” “No, ‘because I love you already Mark and I’ll be more than willing to be your girlfriend Mark.” He smiled and hugged me tighter. “I love you J-ann and you're the only girl for me.”
